Baroque Instruments by
Stephen makes violins violas and cellos in baroque setup, often with fittings based on the surviving bridges and fingerboards of Stradivari preserved in the Stradivari Museum in Cremona. There is a considerable amount of evidence among the drawings and tools in the museum relating to such matters as neck length and bridge height. This has to be interpreted with some care as Stradivari made a number of different sizes and models of violins, but it is an invaluable resource for the modern maker of baroque instruments. |
Here are some more pictures of Stephen's baroque instruments:
| Violin after Guarneri | Viola 15.75 inches | Cello on Stradivari 'B' form |
You can take a closer look at the workmanship and style of Stephen's instruments on the violin page, look at modern violas, visit Stephen's personal page or return to the index page.
