POV-Person (Free include Files for Ray Tracing a Person)

Persistence of Vision (POV-Ray) is a FREE Ray Tracing Software, available for download from http://www.povray.org/
The POV-Ray Scene file and Include files presented here can be used with POV-Ray to render the image of a person. You can use, modify and redistribute them free of charge, subject to the conditions in the POV-Person License, summarised here.

Currently POV-Person supplies only a head. To get a full person you can use this head with the Blobman 4.2 macros that need to be downloaded separately.

Background Information

The POV-Person model and all of it's component parts were created from scratch by members of the POV-Person team to be used with the POV-Ray raytracing software. Currently only a head is provided. The head is split into individual 'include' files for the different component parts, which can be manipulated independently.

This work is licensed under the POV-Person License (summarised here), under the terms of which you are free to use, copy, distribute and make derivative works. To use this work or parts of it for purposes other than those permitted under the terms of this license you will need to seek permission from the author or authors. For contact details see below.

To create a complete person, an 'adapter' is provided that enables this model to be used with the BlobMan 4.2 macros. The POV-Person file 'HeadforBlobMan.inc' scales the POV-Person head and slices it into two pieces, separating the head and the neck. The 'adapter' positions the two parts using BlobMan variables so that they can be used to construct a BlobMan person.

An example of using this 'adapter' is provided with POV-Person in the file 'POVPersonSample.pov'.

Design Notes

The various components used to construct the person are intended to be kept separate to permit them to be used and manipulated independantly. For example, the eyes can be rotated in their sockets and individual teeth can be moved or removed for effect. Here are some examples of using some simple parameters in the scene file.
