Though it bears no sign of its origin, this copy was purchased by us from the publisher’s files, and it seems at least possible that it is an advance copy made up with sample end-papers. In this volume, whether judged by touch, by appearance, or by oxydation, it was clearly not the case. We do not, unfortunately, have another copy for comparison.
