Pastedown blank cracked a little at gutter; white enamel slightly rubbed on front cover, and somewhat chipped (but rather less than usual) on spine (v. note).

The first binding, later copies having the front cover lettered all in black — and here, correctly, without a front free end-paper. (Copies sometimes turn up that have been ‘improved’.) The enamel on the spine is always chipped, and usually lacking entirely (unless it too has been ‘improved’). In the present copy it is about 80% present (looks like a photograph of Mars, but white, with the north pole and a few craters showing scarlet!) The third volume of Randolph Mason short stories, reprinting material first published in Pearson’s Magazine in 1907 — 8. Queen, DSS, p.90; Haycraft, p.94, incorrectly recording this title as dated 1909; Hubin, p.330.
