The second volume of ‘The Forsyte Saga’. Marrot, pp.31-2. The relatively scarce second issue, of which 2,000 copies were bound up as against 7,000 of the first issue. According to Marrot the only difference between the two issues is that the cloth of this copy is of a lighter green than that of the first issue: it is also a glazed rough buckram, resembling that used for the 1921 title ‘To Let’, whereas that of the first issue is matt and without the colour-variance effect given by the grain. Comparison of two copies, one in each binding, reveals a number of textual flaws, some present in both copies, others present in only one (or varying between them). Taken all in all, they suggest a mixture of early- and late- printed sheets, and are probably without issue significance.
